Ep.01 Austin

EPSILON GAMES, 2017-2018

First person, narrative puzzle game. Set in the 3040s, a Crew-121 is sent to Primus Vita to retrieve all the water that was stolen from us hundreds of years prior.

 

The voyage is four years long: every passenger is put in cryo-sleep and undergo a special simulation by the ship's AI to help them prepare for their upcoming mission.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Direct the game design direction of a narrative game in which puzzle depends of the narrative elements to be solved properly

  • 2 hours walkthrough minimum;

  • 4 months production time;

  • Team of 11 persons.

  • Creating fun and engaging challenges in cohesion with the narrative;

  • Level design of all the levels, using Epsilon Games' Inception feature;

  • Linear level requiring the player to solve the puzzle in order to pursue in the game;

  • Make the player's navigation interesting and orientation-friendly;

  • Balance flow and rhythm between the different sections;

  • Organise the interactive objects logically for narrative and puzzle design.

CHALLENGES

Important change of direction, implementation of new features weeks from launching

  • Coherent and constant communication with the teams;

  • Close collaboration with all departments to assure the health of the production;

  • Daily stand up meeting;

  • Precised planning schedules;

One person department, in charge of Game Design and Level Design

  • Research, analyze and playtest of similar gameplay;

  • Early sketches and concept of intended puzzles;

  • Ability to change direction and make cost-less modifications to a puzzle during production;
